This training supports practitioners to understand the process of becoming a competent writer and the importance of mark making as a tool for communication and thinking. Beginning with physical development and age and stages of writing, practitioners will explore their role in embedding mark making into everyday practice.
Aims of the training:
- Explore the local Leicestershire context in terms of writing and why children may be reluctant to write.
- Understand emerging research on supporting young children to write, including the revised EYFS in contrast to the existing guidance.
- Identify the different writing stages that children go through from babyhood to preschool.
- Explore a range of strategies and understand how they can be embedded in practice.
- Reflect on their practice and understand how they can better focus on children’s mark making.
